Wedding Body Prep: What to Do the Week Before Your Wedding for Glowing, Photo-Ready Skin (Updated 2026)
Wedding Body Prep: What to Do the Week Before Your Wedding for Glowing, Photo-Ready Skin (Updated 2026)
You've done the hard work. If you've been following Part 1 of this series, the months-before routine, your skin is already in an entirely different place to where it started. Smoother, more even, healthier. But if you're only just thinking about body prep the week before, no stress, it's not too late!
Now it's the week before your wedding, and this is where you polish everything up. Think of this phase as the finishing touches rather than a complete overhaul. Nothing drastic, nothing risky, nothing new that could irritate your skin at the worst possible time. Just gentle, intentional steps that bring out the best in the work you've already put in.
This is Part 2 of my 3-part Wedding Body Prep series. Part 3 covers your wedding day itself.
Everything in this post is available on Amazon, and as always, I've included options for different skin types and situations.
Let's walk through it.
Step 1: Give Your Body One Final Exfoliation (2–3 Days Before)
This is your last proper exfoliation before the wedding. You want to do this 2–3 days before, not the day before and definitely not the morning of. Giving your skin a couple of days to settle means no redness, no sensitivity, and a beautifully smooth canvas for everything that follows (moisturizer, fake tan, or just your natural glow).
My pick: Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub - $44 (but currently on sale)
If you've been using this product throughout your months-before prep, you already know how good it is. If not, it's a gentle but effective scrub with 100% natural-origin granules that smooths and softens without irritating.
The reason I especially love it for this final pre-wedding exfoliation is that it's not oily. That matters because if you're fake tanning afterwards, any oily residue will interfere with how evenly your tan develops. Even if you're not tanning, oil-free means your moisturizer or body oil absorbs better afterwards.
Pay special attention to elbows, knees, ankles, and any other areas that tend to be rougher or drier. These are the spots that catch self-tanner unevenly or look ashy in photos if they're not properly smoothed.
A gentle reminder: this is your last scrub, so be thorough but don't go overboard. You want smooth, not raw.
Step 2: Hydrate and Nourish Your Skin
After exfoliating, your skin is perfectly prepped to absorb moisture. This is the time to really drench it. Well-hydrated skin looks plumper, healthier, and more radiant in photos, and it holds fake tan (if you are) more evenly too.
I've got three products here, and which ones you use depend on whether or not you're fake tanning.
For everyone (including fake tanners): Advanced Clinicals Collagen Cream - $14.99
This is a safe bet regardless of what your plan is. It's a rich collagen body lotion that improves the look of crepey or uneven skin while providing deep hydration. It works beautifully before and after fake tan application because it absorbs well without leaving an oily barrier on the surface.
Use this generously in the days leading up to your wedding, morning and evening if you can and your skin will thank you.
Best for:
- Everyone, including brides who are fake tanning
- Dry, uneven, or crepey skin
- A rich but non-greasy body moisturizer
For a luxurious in-shower treatment (NOT for fake tanner the next day): L'OCCITANE Almond Shower Oil - $48
If you're not fake tanning, this oil is a beautiful way to add an extra layer of nourishment to your shower routine during wedding week. It's a cleansing shower oil that lathers into a milky foam, purifying and softening your skin without stripping it.
It leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft and nourished, like you've applied a body oil, but without any heavy residue. It's one of those products that feels like a small luxury, and honestly, you deserve that the week before your wedding.
Best for:
- A nourishing, pampering shower experience
- Soft, smooth skin without needing a separate body oil
- Skip this if you're fake tanning soon because the oil can interfere with how evenly your tan develops
For after the shower (NOT for fake tanner the next day): Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Firmeza Body Oil
This is the indulgent step. Firmeza body oil from Sol de Janeiro is a gorgeous, fast-absorbing product that helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks while leaving your skin silky, glowing, and delicately scented. Apply it right after your shower while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in all that moisture.
Important if you're fake tanning: skip this one. Oil breaks down self-tanner, makes it apply unevenly, and causes it to fade and rub off much faster than it should. Save it for after your wedding when you want to maintain your glow without the tan.
Best for:
- Brides who are NOT fake tanning
- Deep nourishment and a beautiful glow
- Stretch marks or areas that need extra attention
- A treat-yourself moment during a stressful week
Step 3: Fake Tan (2 Days Before the Wedding)
If you're planning to self-tan, timing is everything. Apply your fake tan 2 days before the wedding. This gives the color time to fully develop, settle, and look natural and gives you a buffer day in case anything needs touching up.
I'm going to do a full standalone blog post on wedding fake tan application because it can be tricky and there's a lot to cover. But here are the essentials for this post:
Bondi Sands Technocolor 1 Hour Express Self Tanning Foam - $29.99
This is an express formula, which means you only need to leave it on for 1 hour for a light glow or up to 3 hours for a deeper result. The Technocolor range is what makes this one special; it comes in different color tones so you can match your natural skin undertone rather than ending up with a one-shade-fits-all orange situation.
Here's which shade to pick:
- Cool Tone / Sapphire: for fair skin with cool or pink undertones
- Olive Tone / Emerald: for olive or warm-toned skin
- Golden Tone / Caramel: for deeper skin tones who want a warm, natural enhancement
Matching your undertone is the difference between a fake tan that looks obviously fake and one that just looks like you've been somewhere sunny.
Best for:
- Brides who want control over how dark their tan develops
- Quick application with a 1-hour express option
- A natural-looking result that matches your skin's undertone
Pair it with: 2-in-1 Tanning Mitt and Brush Applicator Kit
Please don't apply fake tan with your bare hands. A tanning mitt gives you an even, streak-free application and keeps your palms from turning orange. This kit includes both a mitt for your body and a smaller brush for your face and tricky areas like hands, feet, and ears.
It's a small purchase that makes a huge difference to the final result.
Quick fake tan tips for wedding week:
- Exfoliate 2–3 days before tanning (Step 1 of this post)
- Don't apply any oils or heavy moisturizers before tanning; use the collagen cream instead, as it absorbs cleanly
- Apply with the mitt in long, sweeping motions
- Use less product on elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and feet as these areas absorb more and can go patchy
- Wear loose, dark clothing to bed afterwards
- Shave after your tan has developed, not before (more on that in Step 4)
Step 4: Hair Removal: Shave or Wax (Timing Matters)
How you time your hair removal depends on whether or not you've fake tanned.
If you fake tanned: shave after your tan has fully developed (so the day after application or the day before your wedding). Shaving before your tan can cause the product to settle into open pores and create little dots. Shaving after gives you a smooth finish without disrupting the color.
If you didn't fake tan: shave 1 day before the wedding to give any minor irritation time to calm down.
Either way, here's how to get the smoothest, most irritation-free shave possible:
Shave with: eos Cashmere Shave Oil - $8.99 (but currently on sale)
Forget foamy shaving cream; a shave oil gives you a much closer, smoother shave with less irritation. This one from eos is made with Shea Butter and Glycerin, so it moisturizes while you shave and helps the blade glide without dragging or catching.
It's vegan, smells lovely, and your skin feels genuinely soft afterwards rather than tight and dry.
Best for:
- A smooth, close shave without irritation
- Sensitive skin that's prone to razor burn
- Replacing your regular shaving cream for a better result
Use a single-blade razor: Bambaw Safety Razor - $21.75 (but currently on sale)
The concept might seem old-fashioned, but here's why a single-blade safety razor gives you a better shave than a multi-blade cartridge razor: multi-blade razors work by pulling the hair up and cutting it below the skin's surface. That sounds great in theory, but it's actually what causes ingrown hairs and razor bumps; the hair gets trapped under the skin as it grows back.
A single blade cuts the hair cleanly at the surface without pulling it, which means fewer ingrowns, less irritation, and a smoother result. It's also significantly cheaper over time since replacement blades cost a fraction of what cartridge refills do. And even though this one is rose gold and marketed toward women, there's no pink tax. The price is the same as any other safety razor.
It comes with 5 double-edge blades to get you started.
Best for:
- A closer shave with less irritation and fewer ingrown hairs
- Anyone who's prone to razor bumps, especially on the bikini area and underarms
- An eco-friendly, reusable alternative to disposable razors
- Saving money long-term on razor refills
Follow up with: First Aid Beauty Ingrown Hair Pads - $36 (but currently on sale)
They're compostable, suitable for daily use, and work for both men and women. Use them for a couple of days after shaving to keep everything smooth and bump-free.
Best for:
- Preventing razor bumps and ingrown hairs after shaving
- Bikini area, underarms, and legs
- A quick, easy post-shave step
Step 5: Whiten Your Teeth
This one's easy to overlook, but think about how much you're going to be smiling on your wedding day. Every photo, every greeting, every candid moment: your smile is front and centre. A quick teeth whitening treatment during wedding week can make a noticeable difference and it's such a simple thing to add to your prep.
My pick: Crest 3D Whitestrips - $45.99
My tip: cut the strips in half lengthways. The strips are designed to be quite wide and they tend to wrap around the back of your teeth, which can cause unnecessary sensitivity on areas that nobody sees anyway. Cutting them in half means you're only whitening the front-facing surfaces, which reduces sensitivity and effectively doubles your supply since you'll have extra strips left over.
Use them once a day according to the instructions. If you have sensitive teeth already, you might want to do every other day instead as there's no rush, you have the whole week.
Best for:
- A noticeably brighter smile within a few days
- Brides on a budget who don't want professional whitening
- Quick and easy at-home use during wedding week
Step 6: Treat Your Face With an Overnight Mask
Your face deserves some extra love this week too. Rather than trying anything new or aggressive, a hydrating overnight mask is the safest and most effective way to give your complexion a boost before the big day.
I have a whole blog post on sheet masks if you want to dive deeper, but for wedding week specifically, this is the one I'd recommend:
BIODANCE Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask - $19 (but currently on sale)
This is a hydrogel mask (not a regular sheet mask) that dissolves into your skin overnight, delivering collagen deep into the layers of your skin while you sleep. You wake up with plumper, more hydrated, more bouncy skin; the kind that makes makeup go on beautifully.
It helps with pore size, elasticity, and overall hydration, and because it dissolves gradually, you're getting hours of treatment rather than the 20 minutes you'd get from a standard sheet mask.
Use this 1 to 2 nights during wedding week. It's gentle enough that it won't cause irritation, and the results are genuinely noticeable the next morning.
Best for:
- Plumper, more hydrated skin before your wedding
- Pore minimizing and elasticity
- A gentle overnight treatment that won't cause irritation
- Making your wedding day makeup look incredible
Bonus Steps to Complete Your Wedding Week Prep
The six steps above cover the essentials. Everything below is about going that extra mile; small touches that round out your prep and help you feel completely ready.
Bonus 1: Décolletage and Neck Treatment
If you've been using a firming cream on your neck and chest throughout your months-before prep, keep it going this week. If your dress shows your décolletage, this area deserves continued attention right up until the day before.
Clarins Extra-Firming Neck and Décolleté Cream - $98 (but currently on sale)
This is the same product from Part 1: award-winning, plant-powered, and designed to visibly firm, smooth, and lift the neck and chest area while minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots. Apply morning and evening throughout wedding week for one last round of targeted care.
Bonus 2: Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
Your hair is about to go through a lot; heat styling, pins, product, potentially an updo that needs to hold all day. Giving it one last deep conditioning treatment earlier in the week (3 to 4 days before, not the night before) means it'll be shinier, softer, and more manageable for your stylist to work with.
Luxury pick: Gisou Honey Gloss Ceramide Therapy Hair Mask - $44 (but currently on sale)
The formula is 97% naturally derived and it smells absolutely beautiful.
You can use it three ways: as a quick 5 to 7 minute treatment after shampooing, as a 20-minute pre-wash ritual, or as an overnight deep treatment. For wedding week, I'd go with the 20-minute pre-wash option a few days before and it gives you the most noticeable results without weighing your hair down on the day.
Pro tip: mix in a few drops of hair oil before applying for extra shine and frizz control.
Budget option: Dove Intensive Repair 10-in-1 Serum Mask - $9.97
If you want something effective without the splurge, Dove's serum mask uses Bio-Protein Care Technology and amino serum to repair damaged hair. It won't give you quite the same luxury experience as the Gisou, but it'll leave your hair noticeably softer, smoother, and healthier. A great option if you'd rather save your budget for other wedding expenses.
Bonus 3: Relaxation and Sleep
Wedding week nerves are real. You might feel like there are a hundred things to think about, and your sleep might suffer. But good sleep is genuinely one of the best things you can do for your skin, your energy, and how you feel on the day, so it's worth giving yourself the best chance.
Neom Perfect Night's Sleep Mist - $23 (but currently on sale)
This is a pillow and body mist made with essential oils including lavender and chamomile. Spritz it on your pillow and pyjamas before bed and it creates this lovely, calming atmosphere that helps you wind down. It's not going to knock you out, but it sets the mood for rest; and sometimes that's all you need.
Lemme Sleep Gummies - $29.99 (but currently on sale)
If you want a little extra help, these sleep gummies contain 5mg Melatonin along with Elderberry, Magnesium, L-Theanine, Chamomile, and Lavender. They're a gentle, drug-free sleep aid that helps you fall asleep and stay asleep without feeling groggy the next morning.
They're gluten-free, gelatin-free, non-GMO, and berry-flavored. Take them about 30 minutes before you want to sleep.
A word of caution: if you haven't tried melatonin gummies before, test them earlier in the week rather than the night before your wedding, just to make sure they work well for you and you feel good the next morning.
