5 Best Exfoliators for Soft, Radiant Skin - Chemical & Physical (2026)

5 Best Exfoliators for Soft, Radiant Skin - Chemical & Physical (2026)

We may earn commission from links on this page. Each product featured has been vetted, tested and chosen by us.

If your skin feels rough, dull, or congested, regular exfoliation is the game-changer. Harsh, physical scrubs made with ingredients like walnut pieces or plastic balls can do a lot more harm than good, leaving your skin irritated and damaged. That's where gentle, effective exfoliators come in and these are our top 5 exfoliators that you can easily find on Amazon. They smooth texture, brighten your complexion, and reveal that fresh, glowing skin hiding underneath. Here are my honest reviews of the best exfoliators you can grab on Amazon right now.

1. Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - $37

Starting off very strong with Paula's Choice: a popular brand and a popular product for a reason. This exfoliant is great at removing dead skin and boost skin cell turnover which is exactly what we want from a chemical exfoliant. This product also visibly reduces pores, regulates oil and sebum production and supports your skin barrier which isn't easy to find with an exfoliant.

Ingredients breakdown:
  • Salicylic acid: also known as "BHA" effectively removes dead skin cells and cleanses and cleans pores from within. This reduces blackheads and pimples and it soothes sensitive skin.

  • Methylpropanediol: sounds a bit chemical and scary but it's a safe ingredient that can enhance the effectiveness of the BHA. It's also great at moisturising your skin which is something you want in an exfoliant.

  • Green tea extract: an antioxidant, a skin-soother and also anti-aging.

Why we love it:
This exfoliant genuinely does what it says it will. We've noticed a reduction in blackheads, smoother complexions and skin feels cleaner and softer. Oil production on the face seems to have slowed down as well which is a plus for those with oilier skin.

Best for:
  • Oily skin
  • Dull complexions
  • Skin with blackheads
What we'd change:
Paula's Choice isn't the cheapest, which is fair enough as their products do seem to be effective. So if you're looking for something at a slightly lower price point, this one might not be for you. We've seen this product also comes in pre-soaked pads which is convenient. But if you want more bang for your buck, go for the classic bottle.

2. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner - $9

If you're looking for an affordable yet effective chemical exfoliant, The Ordinary has got you covered. This toner uses 7% Glycolic Acid to gently smooth skin texture, even out complexion, and give you that luminous glow we all want. It's got ingredients like Tasmanian Pepperberry, Aloe, and Ginseng to calm any potential irritation which makes it gentler than most AHA toners on the market.

Ingredients breakdown:
  • Glycolic Acid: an "AHA" that works on the skin's surface to dissolve dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath.

  • Tasmanian Pepperberry: a natural extract that reduces irritation and redness commonly caused by exfoliation.
  • Aloe & Ginseng: both are soothing and hydrating helping to keep the skin calm.

Why we love it:
This is an effective exfoliant that's gentle enough to use everyday, which is what we've been doing. The results are noticeable within a week or two, our skin genuinely looks brighter and feels smoother. For under $10, it's hard to find a more effective exfoliant.

Best for:
  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Rough texture or bumpy skin
  • Hyperpigmentation or dark spots
What we'd change:
It's hard to find something we'd want to change for this product to be honest. The only thing we could think of is you might need a harsher exfoliant once a week to make sure you're really getting that baby-new skin. But this is a really effective every day exfoliant.

3. Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0 - $31

We wouldn't be able to make this list without including the viral Medicube Zero Pore Pad. This Korean brand seemingly took off a few months ago due to their inventive and effective products. The Zero Pore Pads are awesome if you struggle with enlarged pores, excess oil or congested skin. The pads are dual-textured that combine 4.5% Lactic Acid and 0.45% Salicylic Acid with an embossed side for physical exfoliation and a smooth side for toning and soothing. Along with calming ingredients like White Willow Bark and Lavender Extract, these pads are great for exfoliating, refining pores and controlling sebum production.

Ingredients breakdown:
  • Lactic Acid: an "AHA" that works on the skin's surface to dissolve dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath.

  • Salicylic Acid: a "BHA" that effectively removes dead skin cells and cleanses and cleans pores from within. This reduces blackheads and pimples and it soothes sensitive skin.
  • White Willow Bark: a natural source of salicylic acid that gently exfoliates while soothing inflammation and redness.
  • Lavender Extract: calms and soothes the skin while providing a light, therapeutic scent.

Why we love it:
These pads are really convenient, you can just take a pad out of the pot and there you go. We love the dual-texture pads that deliver great active ingredients without irritation. We've noticed visibly smaller pores and way less oiliness throughout the day since using these 3-4 times a week.

Best for:
  • Enlarged or clogged pores
  • Oily or combination skin
  • Blackheads and congestion
What we'd change:
While we do love that these pads have two sides, we worry a little about fingers contaminating the smooth side of the pad before use. But, wash your hands before you use these (as we should be doing anyway) and it's all good.

4. CeraVe Skin Renewing Nightly Exfoliating Treatment - $29.99

CeraVe is one of those dermatologist-recommended brands you see everywhere because they know how to create effective, affordable products. This every day (well, every night) exfoliating serum combines Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid to gently resurface your skin while you sleep, targeting dark spots, fine lines and uneven texture. It's also got ceramides and hyaluronic acid to keep your skin barrier strong and hydrated which is crucial when it comes to exfoliation.

Ingredients breakdown:
  • Glycolic Acid & Lactic Acid: an "AHA" that works on the skin's surface to dissolve dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath.

  • Licorice Root: a natural brightening agent that helps fade dark spots and even out skin tone, plus it has anti-inflammatory properties to calm irritation.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: locks in moisture and keeps skin plump and hydrated, counteracting potential dryness from the acids.
  • 3 Essential Ceramides (1, 3, 6-II): these are lipids that naturally exist in your skin barrier. They help restore and protect the barrier, keeping moisture in and irritants out.

Why we love it:
This serum is a solid choice for anyone dealing with dull skin, dark spots, or early signs of aging. The fact that it's developed with dermatologists and is fragrance-free makes it a safe bet for sensitive skin types. We've seen smoother, brighter skin after a few weeks of consistent use, and it's gentle enough for nightly application without causing irritation.

Best for:
  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Dark spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines
What we would change:
We're used to CeraVe being a more affordable option, so sitting at nearly $30 when it's not on sale is a little disappointing. But it's a great exfoliant so we can't be too mad about it.

5. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution - $9.50

This product is not for exfoliant beginners or for those that can't stand a little burning sensation. The Ordinary's AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a more advanced chemical peel that delivers great results. This blood-red solution deeply exfoliates to reveal brighter, smoother and more even-toned skin. It's designed as a weekly treatment (or twice a week if your skin can tolerate it), and it works by dissolving dead skin cells and unclogging pores in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients breakdown:
  • 30% AHA Blend (Glycolic, Lactic, Tartaric & Citric Acids): this powerhouse combination of AHAs works on the skin's surface to remove dead skin cells, smooth texture, brighten dullness and fade dark spots or hyperpigmentation.

  • 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid): goes deeper into the pores to clear out sebum, blackheads and congestion.

  • Tasmanian Pepperberry: a natural extract that reduces irritation and redness commonly caused by exfoliation.

Why we love it:
When we say this product works, we mean it. After rinsing it off, your skin genuinely looks brighter, smoother, and more refined. We use it once a week (any more than that feels like overkill), and the results are noticeable with improved texture, faded dark spots and a nice glow that we feel lasts for days. For under $10, it's hands-down the most effective exfoliation treatments you can get.

Best for:
  • Dull and uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation or dark spots
  • Rough texture
  • Congested pores
What we'd change:
We're not lying when we say this burns. And while it's not unbearable, it's definitely uncomfortable for the first couple of minutes of applying. If you have sensitive skin, this probably isn't for you. Definitely don't use daily and make sure you applying sunscreen the day after.
